The Supreme Court on Thursday directed that the Telangana government should not do any activity other than the safety of trees on the land near Hyderabad University.

A bench of Justice BR Gawai and Justice Augustine George Christ called the cutting of trees in the state as a very serious matter and said that the interim report of the Telangana High Court Registrar shows its dangerous picture. The report shows that a large number of trees have been cut.

Apart from this, the bench has sought an early answer from the Chief Secretary of Telangana to start work by cutting trees on the land near the university. At the same time, the state has asked whether the state has taken an assessment certificate of the impact on the environment for such activities (harvesting of trees).

Earlier, the bench had taken cognizance of the cutting of trees on the land near the university on 2 April. The court also directed the Telangana High Court Registrar to visit the site and present the report. The next hearing in the case will be held on 16 April.

On March 30, there was a lot of uproar between the students and the police opposing the creation of an IT park near the university. Students were opposing the project due to environmental concerns.

Police said- students attacked, case will go on BRS alleged- In the presence of police, dozens of bulldozers were brought to level the land. During this, the police beat up the protesting students with sticks. The girls were crying that their clothes were torn, but the police did not listen to them and took him to the police station. About 200 people were arrested.

However, the police said that 53 students obstructing government work have been taken into precautionary custody. Some of them also attacked the police. A case will be registered against them. ,
