Supreme Court to Hear Please Challenges Madaras High Court Order to Arrest Adgp in Kidnapping Case

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) agreed to hear the petition challenging the Madras High Court’s directive, asking the Tamil Nadu police to arrest ADGP HM Jairam (armed police) in a kidnapping case.

A bench of Justil Ujjal Bhuiyan and Justice Manmohan said that it would hear the petition on Wednesday. Earlier, a lawyer said that he has filed an appeal against the High Court’s directive, which was based on a conflict statement.

The lawyer said, ‘On the instructions of the High Court yesterday, an officer of ADGP rank was arrested. I have filed a special permission petition at 10 am today. Please list the case for immediate hearing. The bench said, ‘Okay. We will hear it tomorrow.

On Monday, the High Court had verbally directed the Tamil Nadu police to arrest an officer of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in a kidnapping case. Jayaram (Armed Police) was arrested after coming out of the court premises.

High Court Justice P Velmurugan, while hearing an anticipatory bail plea filed on behalf of MLA M Jagan Murthy, gave this direction, who had expressed apprehension of arrest in the case. He represents Kilvathinankupam (Scheduled Caste) seat and is the head of an organization.

The judge also expressed strong displeasure over the MLA. On Monday, when the case came for hearing, the judge called Putia Bharatam Kachi leader Murti and ADGP Jairam verbally to appear in court in the afternoon. Jairam’s government vehicle was allegedly used in the kidnapping. Both appeared in the court.

In his brief order, the judge said that since the two accused have given a confession against the ADGP, action should be taken against them as per law. The judge decided to further hear the case on 26 June.
