During the inspection at a company in Chennai, a sample of ‘Kapha Syrup’ collected from there has been found to be adulterated. An official of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department gave this information on Saturday (September 04, 2025). The official said that we have sought clarification from the Tamil Nadu company and directed it to stop the production of syrup in our factory nearby here.
The Tamil Nadu government has ordered to ban its sale and remove its reserves from the market after 11 children died in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. After these orders, this action was taken here.
Decision regarding adulteration in ‘Kapha Syrup’ in investigation
The official said that the sale of this ‘Kapha Syrup’ made by the manufacturer has been banned in Tamil Nadu from October 1 after adulteration in the sample. He said that a team of Food Safety and Drug Administration Department inspected the factory of the pharmaceutical company in Suunguvarchantram in neighboring Kanchipuram district last week and collected samples of ‘Kapha Syrup’ from there.
When asked about the results of samples taken for the purpose of checking the factory, the officer on Saturday told ‘PTI’, ‘The sample collected for investigation has been found adulterated and we have sought clarification from the manufacturer. Production in the plant will remain closed till further orders.
Congress leader Kamal Nath blamed
He said, “Until the company gives us satisfactory explanation, production in the factory will remain closed.” He informed that the company has supplied syrup in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Puducherry. Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Friday blamed the mixture of ‘Break Oil Solvent’ in Kapha syrup for the death of children suffering from suspected kidney disease in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday. In Madhya Pradesh, nine people have died in this case, while according to media reports, two infants have died in Rajasthan.
