Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Shubhendu Adhikari from Nandigram in West Bengal on Friday (March 14, 2025) alleged that an incident of the statue was broken in his constituency.
Earlier this week, the BJP had extended the assembly in recent times on the issue of incidents of alleged incidents of statues in Baripur, Palakata and other areas. In a similar claim about Nandigram, Shubhendu Adhikari said in a post on the social media platform X, ‘The villagers of Kamalpur of Amadabad area of ​​Nandigram II block were worshiping since last Tuesday. Pooja and Ram Narayan Kirtan continued peacefully.
He said, ‘Yesterday, while returning home around midnight, a villager saw that the idols had been fragmented. He informed the other villagers, who later gathered and saw the said act. The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Shubhendu Adhikari urged the DGP to identify the culprits and bring them into the dock as soon as possible. He said, ‘West Bengal Police should take strict action and avoid covering such heinous acts.’
On this, a senior police official said that the security force was sent to the area on Friday and investigation is being done. Shubhendu Adhikari confirmed that the situation was under control and the dolotra in the area was celebrated in a peaceful manner, as in other places in Bengal.
TMC General Secretary Kunal Ghosh dismissed the allegations of Shubhendu Adhikari and accused him and other BJP leaders of promoting partitions. He said, ‘(Shubhendu) officer and other BJP leaders are playing repeated polarization cards to remain politically relevant, because their vote is continuously decreasing in every election.’
Kunal Ghosh said, ‘Instead of focusing on issues such as economic development and employment, they are bouncing religious matters and trying to create partitions in the society. BJP’s move will not be successful. He emphasized this, ‘The police was cautious in every incident and has taken appropriate action to protect every worship site.’
