In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Annamalai contested from the Coimbatore seat in Tamil Nadu, but had to face defeat.
Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai said on Friday that he is not in the race for the new state president of Tamil Nadu. He said- There is no place for internal competition in the BJP, because the president is unanimously selected.
In a conversation with the media in Coimbatore, he said- As far as I am concerned, the BJP should perform well in the coming time, we will talk about it during the election of the new president. Leadership changes in the state may be soon.
He was questioned why he is not in the race for the post of president. In response to this, he said- Where is the scope of the competition? The BJP does not hold internal competition for such positions. That is why I said that I am not in the race for this post.
According to media reports, Annamalai has resigned from the post of president, but neither Annamalai nor BJP have confirmed this.
Karnataka has assembly elections next year. Currently DMK has a government. Therefore, AIADMK and BJP can enter alliance. Annamalai AIADMK has been constantly attacked. Therefore, BJP can give him a second big post by removing him from the post of president.

On 26 March, former Karnataka CM and AIADMK General Secretary Edappari Palaniswami met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Since then, it is being speculated that AIADMK will again be a part of NDA in the next assembly elections.
Annamalai Lagatara has been an attacker on AIADMK. According to reports, AIADMK demanded the removal of Annamalai from the post of president as the first condition of the alliance in the meeting.
Annamalai also met Shah after the meeting of Palaniswami and Amit Shah. In this meeting, Annamalai was told that the party values his work a lot. In view of the current political situation, some decisions are being taken, they do not need to worry anything.
Annamalai also reiterated the same thing on Friday that the BJP is a national party and the party has to take some decisions to defeat DMK immersed in corruption in Tamil Nadu.
These names involved in the race of new state president
AIADMK General Secretary Edappari Palaniswami and Annamalai come from the same caste gounder and the same region of Western Tamil Nadu. This is also a reason for the possible changes of Annamalai. The party feels that handing over the command of the party to the leader of the second caste will benefit it in the elections.
The name of Nayanar Nagendran, Dalit leader and Union Minister L. Murugan and Tamilisai Sundararajan coming from Nadar caste is currently under discussion for the post of president. Tamilisai Sundararajan joined BJP in March 2024. She has also been Telangana Governor and LG of Puducherry.
