On Wednesday (July 13, 2025) at the 32nd convocation of Manonmanium Sundarnar University, a PhD scholar student refused to take his degree from Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. The scholar alleged, “The Governor has worked against the interests of Tamil Nadu.” After that the scholar accepted the degree from the Vice Chancellor of the university.
Scholar Jean Joseph received a doctoral degree in micro finance. Jean said that he deliberately kept distance from the Governor. Governor RN Ravi has done nothing for the Tamil people. So I did not want to take my degree from them.
This decision was deliberately taken
In the video footage of the university ceremony, Jean Joseph was seen by the chief guest, taking his degree from Vice Chancellor N. Chandrashekhar, bypassing the chief guest Governor RN Ravi. Although the governor thought that this was a mistake, the scholar expressed his gesture that he had taken this decision intentionally.
According to the NDTV report, a senior university professor said, “We thought he is a student of the vice -chancellor and wanted to get this degree from him, but later we realized that he did this intentionally.”
Dispute with DMK also due to dispute!
At the same time, Jean Joseph’s husband, Rajan is an officer of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), whose conflict with the Governor is going on. The DMK has accused the Governor of deliberately delaying the approval of the bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, preventing the work of the elected government.
This tension increased further when the Supreme Court gave a decision on the petition of the Tamil Nadu government, saying that the Governor and the President have no discretionary powers in such cases, but should work only on the advice of the Council of Ministers.
