In a fake encounter case held in 1993 in Tarn Taran district of Punjab, a CBI court in Mohali has convicted five former police officers. The culprits include SSP and DSP rank officials. In this case 32 -year -old, they have been proved serious allegations of criminal conspiracy, murder and evidence. The court will announce a sentence for them on August 4.
Those convicted by the CBI court include former Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhupinderjit Singh (Retired Senior Superintendent of Police), former Assistant Sub-Inspector Davinder Singh (retired DSP), former ASI Gulberg Singh, former Inspector Suba Singh and former ASI Raghbir Singh. All of them have been found guilty of death of seven people in 1993. Three police officers were also among the victims.
The investigation of this case was handed over to the CBI. According to the Central Investigation Agency, on 27 June 1993, a police team led by Gurdev Singh, the then in-charge of Sarhali police station in Tarn Taran district, arrested special police officers Shinder Singh, Desa Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Balkar Singh as well as Daljit Singh from the house of a government contractor. All of them were implicated in a false robbery case.
Police told the story of such fake encounter
After this, on 2 July 1993, the police claimed that Shinder Singh, Desa Singh and Sukhdev Singh have escaped with government weapons. On 12 July 1993, the police led by the then DSP Bhupinderjit Singh and Inspector Gurdev Singh created the story of fake encounter. The police claimed that a person named Mangal Singh was being taken to Ghadka village for recovery in the robbery case.
The victims were tortured before killing
At the same time, the terrorists attacked. Mangal Singh, Desa Singh, Shinder Singh and Balkar Singh were killed in the shootout from both sides. But the CBI investigation revealed the truth of this story. The post -mortem report made it clear that the dead were tortured before killing them. Forensic investigation of weapons seized from them also revealed serious discrepancies.
Dead bodies were called unclaimed
Not only this, despite the identity of the victims, their bodies were cremated as unclaimed. On 28 July 1993, another fake encounter was carried out under the leadership of DSP Bhupinderjit Singh. In this, Sukhdev Singh, Sarabjit Singh and Harvinder Singh were killed. After the Supreme Court’s order of 12 December 1996, the case was handed over to the CBI.
Families got justice after 32 years
Based on the complaint of Narinder Kaur, wife of Shinder Singh, the CBI had registered an FIR in the case in 1999. After this, after a long investigation and many witnesses, the accused were now convicted. Five other police officers accused in this case have died. These include the names of Gurdev Singh, Gyan Chand, Jagir Singh, Mohinder Singh and Arur Singh.
