The Indian cricket team has a chance to create history today.
Highlights
- Indian team has reached the threshold of victory in Edgbaston Test
- Today Indian bowlers will have to work very hard
- India has a golden opportunity to match the series
Thanks to the second century of captain Shubman Gill (161 runs), India declared 427 runs for 6 wickets on the fourth day. And gave England a target of 608 runs for victory. But on the fifth day, the England batsmen will be in trouble. Because the team lost three wickets till 72 runs till the stump in the second innings, in which two wickets Akashdeep and one wicket Mohammad Siraj shocked. Akashdeep took the wickets of dangerous Ben Docket and Joe Root while Siraj caught Jacques Carule at the backward point on outswinger.
Gill continued to score runs by scoring a third century in four innings. He scored 269 runs in the first innings. Apart from him, Ravindra Jadeja (69 not out), Rishabh Pant (65) and KL Rahul (55) contributed by scoring half -centuries in the second innings. India declared the second innings one hour after the tea break. However, at the time of declaring the innings, experts and fans raised questions in which Cheteshwar Pujara said ‘on air’ that India should have declared the innings at least half an hour ago. When the innings was not declared despite Gill’s dismissal, the fans of England raised slogans of ‘boring boring’ in ‘Holyse Stand’. Hooting started soon after.
Gill overtook Gavaskar
Gill, who reached the century immediately before the tee break, made a sweep shot on Deep Square and Mid-Vicky, taking his aggressive stance against the spin pair of Shoaib Bashir and Doodle Joe Root. Gill’s 162 -ball innings included 13 fours and eight sixes, scoring 430 runs in the match. Gill and Jadeja played 175 runs for the fifth wicket. In this process, Gill surpassed the great cricketer Sunil Gavaskar for scoring the most runs in a Test match of any Indian, who scored 344 runs in a Test against West Indies in Port of Spain in 1971. He also became the second Indian to score 200 and 100 in the same Test after Gavaskar.
The wickets remained flat so far, which made a mountain of runs. But India has so far scored seven centuries in the tour which is unprecedented in a foreign series. It will be interesting to see what attraction England adopts. However, the strategy of captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum is not inspired by the results but the results. The only draw Ashes in the Bazball era was due to rain in the Old Trafford match in 2023. Gill changed the ‘scoring’ pace after changing the gear after the lunch break and then completed his second century of the first match immediately from the tea.
Gill achieved two centuries in a test
Gill achieved the achievement of scoring two centuries in a match by taking one run in the over of Shoaib Bashir before Tea break. Gill, who scored a double century in the first innings, did not celebrate much after scoring a century in the second innings as his eyes are on equalizing the series. Gill shared a 110 -run partnership with vice -captain Rishabh Pant (65 runs off 58 balls), who held great strokes but lost control of his bat in an attempt to get Bashir’s ball out of the park.
