Godavari banakacharla project dispute: The Telangana government has made serious allegations against the Andhra Pradesh government regarding Godavari Banakacharla Project. State Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Andhra government is ignoring Telangana’s interests for political gains. On Thursday (19 June 2025), Union Water Power Minister C.R. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy are going to meet Patil and Bhupendra Yadav. In this meeting, the Telangana government will keep its objections on this project.
Earlier on Wednesday (18 June 2025), Dr. B.R. In the meeting held at Ambedkar Secretariat, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy told through a presentation that this project will prove to be harmful for the farmers of Telangana. He said that the Andhra government is violating inter -state agreements and orders of Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal.

Dr. B.R. In the meeting held at Ambedkar Secretariat, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that Andhra Pradesh wants to irrigate 7.41 lakh acres of new land with this project of Rs 81,900 crore. The project is in danger of sinking of Bhadrachalam Ramalayam and Manuguru water plant in Telangana. He said that work has been started without environmental approval and tor permission. At the same time, the report of the Central Water Commission of 2018 claimed that there is no additional water in Polavaram.
Tender process started by creating a drainage corporation
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Andhra government has started the tender process by creating a drainage corporation and is working on a war footing. He urged the MPs of all political parties to unite and oppose the project. MPs of Congress, BJP, BRS and AIMIM participated in this meeting. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has also demanded intervention from the central government on this issue.
