At the Telangana Sports Conference held in Hyderabad, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the new Telangana Sports Policy, which aims to empower youth through sports and protect them from drug addiction. Reddy said that the youth are wandering in the absence of sports policy. Our new policy will make Telangana competitive on the global platform.
He said that in recent years, there has been an increase in drugs and cannabis cases in Telangana, against which Eagle Force has been formed. Reddy criticized the previous regime and said that sports grounds were used for events like wedding hall and sunburn. He insisted that we will make Telangana the center of sports. Sports University and Sports Academy will be established for this.
Telangana CM expressed concern over India’s Olympic ranking (71st position), saying, “It is shameful not to win a single gold medal in a country with a population of 140 crores.”
Reddy counted the contribution of Telangana players
He said that 9 players from Hyderabad contributed to the team that secured fourth position in football in the 1956 Olympics. Currently, players like Mohammad Siraj, Nikhat Zarine and Deepti have illuminated the name of the state. Siraj and Nikhat were given Group-1 jobs and residential plots in Hyderabad, while Deepti was awarded one crore rupees and plots for outstanding performance in Paralympics.
The Chief Minister announced that Telangana has hosted the National Sports, Commonwealth Sports and World Military Sports and is now ready to host two categories of Olympics in 2026 and two Olympics in future. He said that our sports policy is not only paper documents, but a policy written on gold plate.
Taking a tough stance against the drug, Reddy said, “The eagle force will not spare drug traffickers.” Vision Document 2047 includes special chapters for sports policy.
