A court in Thane district of Maharashtra sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping and making him pregnant. Special Judge AD Harne found accused Jeevan Ashok Vadwinde guilty of allegations under the protection of children from sexual offenses and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
The court sentenced the accused to 20 years rigorous imprisonment. He has also been fined 20 thousand rupees. Out of the fine, 18 thousand rupees will be given to the victim as compensation. The court also recommended that the District Legal Services Authority should decide further compensation for Thane victim. The order of 22 May was made available on Saturday.
According to the prosecution, the accused sexually assaulted the girl at a relative’s house in Dombivali on the night of 5-6 July 2020. The crime came to light a month later when the girl was found pregnant and informed her family about it. The judge laid a lot of emphasis on the evidence of the victim, which included medical reports and birth certificates.
This proved that she was a minor. He said in his judgment, “The court should consider the social influence of crime, especially where it is related to crime against women. The court should also keep in mind the seriousness of the crime, the age of the victim, the suffering of the victim like stigma in the society.”

In Bhiwandi court, District Judge NK Karande, in his order on Tuesday convicted the accused Lalla Mahmood Shah under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses.
He was also fined 5 thousand rupees. Judge NK Karande had said in his order that the prosecution successfully proved all the allegations against the accused of Bhiwandi beyond appropriate suspicion. Special Public Prosecutor Vijay Munde told the court that on August 22, 2019, the accused entered the house of a 14 -year -old girl and raped her at a knife.
After carrying out this incident, he escaped. Citing the complaint lodged by the victim, he told the court that this was the second sexual harassment on the girl by the accused, while the first sexual harassment happened eight days ago. Advocates Munde and Khandagale said that the court had questioned five witnesses including the victim, her mother and grandmother to prove the allegations against the accused.
