A painful accident occurred in Kundamal area of Maval Tehsil of Pune, Maharashtra at around 3:30 pm on Sunday. The 30 -year -old iron bridge on the Indraani river here suddenly collapsed due to heavy rains and strong current and the people on the bridge were swept away in the river. 4 people died in the accident, while 51 people were injured. The injured have been admitted to Pawna Hospital, Meer Hospital, Atharva Hospital and Unique Hospital. Of these, 2 people died during treatment, while two bodies were recovered from under the collapsed bridge at the scene.
It is being told that this bridge was decaying for some time and the movement of vehicles was closed here, but amidst heavy rains, many people had come to the bridge to see the flow of the river, when this accident happened suddenly.
Senior inspector of Talegaon Dabhade police station, Pradeep Rayanwar said that there is still a possibility of a person being trapped in the debris of the bridge, his search is on. This accident happened at a time when due to heavy rains in the area, there was a sharp flow in the river. About 100 to 125 tourists had come to the bridge and around for a picnic, although it was not raining at the time of the accident.
At the same time, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said that investigation will be done and those responsible will be punished. Action will be taken against those responsible for this.
On the other hand, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule reached the spot after the accident. He said that the hospital and team of doctors are trying their best to assure every family, we are praying. They are trying their best to serve everyone. (State) The government will issue an official statement.
NDRF and rescue teams are doing relief work
Soon after the incident, two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade, local police and disaster friends got involved in relief and rescue operations.
The reason for the accident became more crowded on the bridge!
According to news agency PTI, Maharashtra’s Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan reached the spot and monitored the rescue operations. He said that the bridge was only for pedestrians, and there was also a warning board, in which two -wheelers and more people were prohibited from walking together, but the tourists ignored these instructions, which increased the burden on the bridge and broke it.
Police deployment will be investigated
Girish Mahajan said that this entire matter will be investigated. He said that despite repeated warnings in the monsoon every year, people go to such dangerous sites and put their lives at risk. We appeal to tourists to avoid such negligence. He said that with the help of cranes, the work of removing the debris of the bridge is going on and every effort is being made to save the people trapped in it.
Compensation of 5 lakhs to the families of the deceased.
CM Fadnavis has announced that the state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those killed in the bridge collapse on the Indraini river near Talegaon in Pune district. Apart from this, the state government will also bear the cost of treatment of the injured.
