KK Venugopal, KK Venugopal, the Chief Test Pilot Group (Retired) of HAL’s fixed wing aircraft in Bangalore, took a Test flight of Tejas MK 1A in April 2024.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) CMD DK Sunil has said that the Indian Air Force will get 6 Tejas Jet LCA Mark-1A by March 2026. The engine F404 of the American defense company GE Aerospace Jet could not supply it on time, due to which it was delayed.
Sunil said- GE aerospace was to be given engines in 2023, but the production of engine production, Kovid and many senior engineers leaving the company faced production problems. So far only one engine has been found. While we have 6 jets ready.
He said that 12 engines are expected to supply this year (Financial Year). This will ease the delivery of jet to the Indian Air Force. Every company has to face criticism. This happened to us in the case of LCA Mark-1A.
In fact, in January this year, Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief AP Singh expressed concern over the delay in delivery of Tejas fighter jets. He had said that the first batch of 40 Tejas aircraft ordered in 2009-2010 has not been received yet.
Sunil said- Technical problem was solved with GE aerospace
Sunil said- Technical issues have been resolved with GE Aerospace. There are plans to make 16 jets in the coming year. Provided that the GE Aerospace Engine supplies on time.
He said that many countries have shown interest in Tejas Jet. HAL is talking to some countries. The deal is expected to be final with some soon.
LCA Mark-1A aircraft will replace mig series aircraft The Indian Air Force is preparing to change its current Mig series aircraft from the LCA variant of Tejas. LCA Mark-1A aircraft will replace Mig-21, MIG-23 and MIG-27. More than 65% of LCA Mark-1A equipment are made in India.
LCA Mark-1A has a big step towards India’s self-reliance and make-in-India in aerospace. There is a plan to deploy Swadeshi Tejas Mark-1A at Nal airbase in Bikaner, Rajasthan near Pakistan border.
