The ambulance, which was helping the injured in the stampede during Vijay’s rally in Karur, was attacked by his party workers. Surya, the owner of the ambulance service providing company, has claimed this. This sad incident occurred during a huge public meeting organized by Vijay’s Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK) on the night of 27 September, killing 40 people and injuring more than 70 people.
Surya told that her team was stationed near the rally venue with an ambulance. Suddenly there was chaos in the rally. People were feeling suffocated, because they were having trouble breathing. Surya said that he tried to remove small ambulances from among his team with a huge crowd. He alleged, ‘TVK workers felt that we were entering the crowd to disperse the crowd.’

He further informed that the injured were taken to the hospital using eight ambulances. Surya said that the people who came to the rally were standing on top of the temporary structures made to avoid the sun, which collapsed under the pressure of the crowd. Many people fell into the crowd and only a few of them survived. Where Vijay was addressing, three people were found dead on his right.
Ambulance service provider Surya claimed that 5 ambulances in the rescue were targeted by Vijay’s party workers. Amidst the chaos, a driver’s key and phone were taken away, causing a delay of about two hours in the rescue work. Two rescuers are still hospitalized. According to media reports, the stampede occurred when his campaign was moving towards the bus to see Vijay. Due to this the security system collapsed.

According to eyewitnesses, the reason for this stampede is being told for this stampede to organize a rally among the narrow streets and reach Vijay’s rally site late at the rally site. Officials have confirmed that at least 40 people were killed and more than 70 were injured in the stampede. After this tragedy, the Tamil Nadu government announced compensation for the victim families and has started a judicial inquiry into the accident. Expressing grief over the accident, Vijay said that I am getting ‘unbearable pain’ due to the death of people.
