The death of an unclaimed patient on Saturday at the Medical College in Akbarpur, Kanpur, and the negligence that after that has raised serious questions on the system of the hospital. The body of the deceased was lying on the bed of the ward for 11 hours, after the smell spread, the administration woke up when the other patient and their timbers ran away from the ward.
The hospital was left in a state of unconsciousness
According to the information, some people left the medical college in a state of unconsciousness at around 1:15 pm on Saturday afternoon. The young man had no identity card and his identity was also not completely clear. When the condition became critical, the doctors on duty immediately started treatment and admitted him to the ward.
Death at night during treatment
According to hospital sources, Sundar’s condition did not improve during treatment and her breath stopped at around 11 pm. Even after the death was confirmed, the body was not removed from the ward. In the night shift in the hospital, there was no necessary arrangements to send the dead body to the morchary.
Dead body lying on the bed till morning
At around 9 am on Sunday morning, the nursing officer on duty called outsourcing staff and sent the body to Morchery. After this, the ward was cleaned. During this time, the smell spread so much that the patients admitted in the ward and their timbers were forced to go out. A Timardar told, the smell increased at night. We had to sit outside with the patient, but no one immediately took action.
Hospital’s argument ambulance not found
The hospital administration says that the process of referring the deceased for better treatment was going on, but the ambulance was not available. The management admitted that after the death, it was necessary to remove the body on time and there was negligence in it.
Administration response
On receiving the information of the case, the District Magistrate expressed displeasure and the principal of the Medical College assured action after investigation. The principal says that clarification has been sought from the concerned staff in the case and appropriate steps will be taken after the investigation report.
