Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two important National Highway Projects-Delhi Khand and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi on Sunday. The total cost of these projects is around Rs 11,000 crore. These projects are part of the government’s comprehensive plan to get rid of the national capital from jam and improve connectivity. Their purpose is to reduce traffic in Delhi and surrounding areas, reduce travel time and smooth traffic system.
The 10.1 km long Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway has been developed at a cost of Rs 5,360 crore. This section will provide multi-model connectivity, including Yashobhumi, DMRC’s blue line and orange line, upcoming Bijwasan railway station and Dwarka cluster bus depot. The 5.9 km of this section will connect from Shiv Murthy intersection to Dwarka Sector-21 and 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 to Delhi-Haryana border.
This project will play an important role in facilitating traffic in Delhi and increasing regional connectivity. Earlier, in March 2024, the Prime Minister inaugurated the 19 km long Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway. Urban Extension Road-II has been constructed at a cost of Rs 5,580 crore from Alipur to Dichaun Kala Section, as well as Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. The project will reduce traffic pressure at busy places like Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Road, as well as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-09. This will ensure better connectivity in the outskirts of Delhi and save time for passengers.
Both these projects will prove to be a game-changer for traffic management in Delhi-NCR. The Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway will not only increase the facility for local passengers, but will also integrate rail, metro and bus services through multi-model connectivity. At the same time, Uer-II will play an important role in reducing traffic in crowded areas of Delhi. The inauguration of these projects will make the traffic in Delhi-NCR easier and will promote economic activities.
