The dog licked the leg wound of Mohammad Adnan 1 month ago and the child had symptoms such as fear of water and refusing to drink, which is called hydrophobia. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Community Health Center, where the child died the next day. The incident has spread Dashahat in the entire area and about two dozen people of the village reached the precaution hospital and all were injected with rabies. The team of doctors went to the village and investigated the situation and made people aware that it is necessary to wash the injury and take a rabies vaccine immediately when the dog bites or injuries lick.

On this incident, Dr. Prashant Tyagi, Medical Superintendent of Badaun District Hospital, said that this incident emphasizes that dogs bite or licking should never be taken lightly, because it is at risk of rabies. Not only dogs but rabies should be vaccinated immediately on the bite and licking of cat and monkey, it should not be ignored or taken lightly.
Why is dog contact with saliva dangerous?
Rabies virus may be present in dog saliva that can spread infection in humans when exposed to wounds or mucus membrane (eye, mouth, nose). This infection is often caused by cutting or licking on the wound. Rabies is caused by virus, but there are many types of bacteria in the dog’s mouth which can spread infection in humans. If these bacteria come in contact with the wound, scratch or severed part of the skin, you can cause serious problems.
