Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the monsoon session of Parliament would run from 21 July to 21 August. However, the date of the monsoon session was earlier proposed from 21 July to 12 August. Generally, the monsoon session of Parliament ends before Independence Day (15 August), but this time the session will continue for the first time after August 15.
Rijiju said that President Draupadi Murmu has approved the new dates of the monsoon session of Parliament, now the monsoon session of Parliament will start from July 21 and run till 21 August 2025. The proceedings of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will start at 11 am on the first day.
This session is considered special in many ways, because the opposition had demanded to call a special session of Parliament recently. On June 3, the opposition wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding immediate discussion on the terrorist attack in Paulgam and then the military operation operations launched by the government. Through this operation, Indian forces targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK.
The government has now clarified that all these issues can be discussed in the monsoon session itself and there is no need to call a separate session for this. This step indicates the strategy of the government, under which it wants to include all legislative and political discussions in the prescribed session itself.
