The fierce fire in a cold storage in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh has passed for more than 80 hours, but the fire has not been controlled. So far, a loss of Rs 40 to 50 crore has been lost due to fire in a chamber keeping grocery in Shri Hari cold storage.
According to the owners of this cold storage located in the Sasni Kotwali area of ​​Hathras, apart from potatoes, it also had dried fruits, spices and other essential items. The fire was reported at around 2 pm on the night of 1 April. The owners of cold storage immediately informed the police and fire department and since then the work of extinguishing the fire has been going on. Fire safety experts have also been invited from firefighters and neighboring districts as well as fire safety experts.
Officials said that despite these efforts, the flames were erupted and several walls of cold storage were broken in an attempt to control the fire. Late Thursday night, District Magistrate Rahul Pandey and Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha visited cold storage to assess the situation. He instructed the officers present on the spot to expedite efforts to extinguish the fire.
Fire fighting officer RK Bajpayee said, “We have deployed additional machines and personnel from nearby districts to control the fire.” He further said that the DM has instructed all the concerned departments to take quick action to control the situation.
According to the news agency, Sunil Aggarwal, one of the owners of cold storage, confirmed that there were five chambers in the convenience, one of which was kept in dried fruits, chillies and spices stored by local traders and shopkeepers. He said, “We estimate that the loss is about 40 to 50 crores.”
Sunil Aggarwal said that potatoes of farmers and traders are now being taken to other storage places. Along with the police and district administration, traders and farmers have also gathered on the spot and are keeping an eye on the situation. Officials said that only after extinguishing the fire, the correct limit of damage can be assessed.
