The opposition India alliance can announce its candidate’s name for the Vice Presidential election on Tuesday. On Tuesday, there will be a meeting of leaders of India block at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for the second consecutive day.
Several opposition leaders held a meeting at Kharge’s residence on Monday evening and discussed the names of their joint candidate for the post of Vice President. The leaders suggested some names, including some names from Tamil Nadu.
News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that DMK leaders have proposed the name of a scientist of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for the post of Vice President, who is from Tamil Nadu. The Congress is ready for this candidature.
Apart from this, the name of Senior DMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Shiva is also under discussion, but it is yet to be discussed with other opposition leaders. Sources say that the opposition wants to field a non-political face for the post of Vice President, which has prestige and stature at the national level.
If both of them agreed to any name, then this match is likely to be ‘South vs South’ for the second largest constitutional post in the country. Because the BJP has declared Tamil Nadu leader CP Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate on behalf of NDA.
