A student of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) College, Kolkata has been accused of rape by a student. The statement of the victim’s father and the mother of the accused student has come out in this case. The victim’s father himself denied the allegations of his daughter. He said that nothing went wrong with the daughter. There was no rape, nor did anyone misbehave. The daughter does not even know the accused. She is completely normal and is sleeping right now. The father also told that he received a call at 9:34 pm on Friday night, stating that his daughter fell from the auto and fainted. The police later admitted him to the Neurology Department of SSKM Hospital.

At the same time, the mother of the rape case accused Mahavir Toppanwar alias Parmanand Jain said that we got a call from his friend at around 11 pm. He told that my son has been detained and he does not know the reason for this. We do not know why our son has been arrested. We want to meet our son and talk to him. He was in the final year of his college. We do not know anything in Kolkata here. Where is the police station or court, my son is innocent. He has come to study so far. He will never do such dirty work.

What is the victim’s charge?

The victim woman told in her FIR that she had gone to the hostel for counseling, alleging that the college accused called her to the boys hostels on the pretext of counseling session and gave her pizza and water in lunch. After eating and drinking, she fainted and when she came to her senses, she came to know that she had been raped. The victim alleges that the student also threatened her that if she told anyone something about it, serious consequences would have to be suffered. Please tell that the victim is a psychological counselor by profession.

What action did the police take?

The victim woman lodged a complaint with the Haridevpur police station, after which the Kolkata Police has registered a case under sections 64 and 123 of BNS and arrested a student resident of Karnataka. The accused was produced in Alipur court in Kolkata, from where he has been sent to police custody for 7 days. The next hearing will be held on 19 July.

What did the institute say?

IIM Calcutta issued a statement on the matter saying that it is aware of a serious complaint related to a woman outside the institute and is giving full support in the police investigation. The institute made it clear that the victim is not a student of IIM.
