An underbody car scanner will soon be installed at the official residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh. It is also known as the Under Vehicle Surveillance System (UVSS). According to high -level sources, it has been decided to adopt this technology keeping in mind security, tenders will be issued soon. The price of this state -of -the -art scanner can be from 50 lakh to 1 crore rupees, which will put a huge burden on the government exchequer.
Decision taken due to security
This decision has been taken in view of the movement of vehicles at the Chief Minister’s residence and increasing security threats. A senior Punjab Police official said that the vehicles are currently managed manually with a hand-handed under vehicle search mirror. Large goods can be easily caught, but small and dangerous items can be missed, due to which there is a possibility of breach in security. To avoid this problem, it has been decided to install state -of -the -art scanners.
Budget will come from police modernization fund
Although the Punjab government is facing financial crisis, the budget will be allocated from the police modernization fund for this scanner. The state government had made a provision of Rs 426 crore to modernize the police infrastructure last year, including renewal of police stations, police lines and other security facilities.
Scanner will not be held in Punjab Secretariat
Earlier, such a scanner was being considered in the Punjab Secretariat, but it has been postponed due to the width of the road.
Former DGP supports the verdict
Former Director General of Police (DGP) Shashikant, in a conversation with Aaj Tak, justified this decision and said that this is a good decision. Modern security equipment is being installed in all important government establishments, these state -of -the -art machines can help avoid potential security threats.
