A painful accident occurred in the Ganges river on Saturday morning in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. A boat overturned in Gadai Diara area of Barhadwa block, in which a total of 32 people were aboard. Of these, 28 people somehow swam and saved their lives, while four people drowned. The body of one of these four youths has been recovered, while three others are still missing. There has been a stir in the area since the incident and the administration has started in relief.

The young man went to catch the rats

The accident took place at around 7:30 am when 17 tribal youths from a village in Ranga police station area went to Diara area across the Ganges to catch the rat. During the rainy season, rats come out of their bills and this was the reason that the youth had reached there in large numbers. In return, locals also boarded the boat at Maharajpur Ghat, causing a total of 32 people on the boat.

The boat became unbalanced due to overweight and overturned in the Ganges. After the accident, local youths took out many people, showing courage. Among the submerged youth, Kaha Hansda was removed from the water but by then he had died. Krishna, Jamai and another young man who went with him are still missing.

NDRF team called for rescue

On receiving the information, Ganga police station in -charge Luv Kumar and Rajmahal Zonal Officer reached the spot. The district administration immediately started a search operation with the help of divers. Apart from this, the NDRF team has been called from Bihta in Patna, which will soon be involved in relief and rescue work.

Sahibganj DC Hemant Sati said that the NDRF team will be posted in the district till the flood is over. The administration is taking all necessary steps, giving priority to the safety of life and property.
