The central government has appointed a special team of lawyers under the leadership of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to prosecute the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack against Pakistani-Canadian terror Hussain Rana.
The notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs states that this appointment has been made under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 and the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS), 2023.

According to the notification, the central government has appointed a team of special public prosecutors under the leadership of Tushar Mehta, in which
Apart from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, Special Public Prosecutor Dayan Krishnan, Special Public Prosecutor Narendra Mann are included.

The government said that this team will contest for three years or till the completion of the trial, which is earlier, the NIA will contest in special courts, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court. The case is registered with NIA in RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI Delhi, which includes cases related to 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks against Tehwavur Rana and David Coleman Headley.
NIA got Rana’s extradition done by America
After years of efforts by the NIA, Tawwur Rana was extradited from the US and was arrested as soon as he reached India on 10 April. On May 9, he was sent to judicial custody and now he is lodged in Tihar Jail. According to the NIA, Rana played a major role in the major conspiracy of the 26/11 attack. 166 people were killed in this attack and more than 238 people were injured.

Rana, along with David Headley, has been accused of plotting the attack with the help of Lashkar-e-Taiba. During the interrogation, the NIA team interrogated him intensively for 8 to 10 hours daily to reveal the deep wires of the plot of the attack. With the appointment of this special team led by Tushar Mehta, the government has reiterated its commitment towards bringing justice to the victims of 26/11 attacks.
