Amid the US decision to impose an additional 25% tariff on India, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the countries which are financially strong and technically capable in today’s world are dominating. He described increase in exports and reduce imports for India as mandatory.
Gadkari’s statement amid America’s tariff decision
The US announced an additional 25% tariff on India, which has increased trade tension between the two countries. Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari said that the countries that are doing ‘Dadagiri’ in the world are able to do this because they have economic strength and advanced technology.
Emphasis on making India self -sufficient
During an event at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) of Nagpur, Gadkari said that India would have to increase exports and reduce imports to become a ‘world guru’. He said, “If the rate of our exports and economy rises, then we will not have to go to anyone.”
Technology and knowledge is real strength
Gadkari said that science, technology and knowledge are the solution to problems. He also said that the culture of India teaches us ‘World Welfare’ instead of bullying others.
Nitin Gadkari’s statement came at a time when Donald Trump, while signing an executive order, announced an additional 25% tariff on imports from India. Trump gave the reason for this increase, national security, foreign policy concerns and other relevant trading laws. He claims that India’s oil imports from Russia, whether direct or indirect, creates an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the US.
On Trump’s tariff announcements, the Ministry of External Affairs said that all necessary steps will be taken to protect their national interests. At the same time, the Ministry termed the United States move to put additional tariffs on India on oil imports from Russia as “unfair, inappropriate and indispensable”.
