However, most Indians consume too much sodium. On an average, a limit of 5 grams has been fixed per day but they take 8-11 grams per day. People believe that coarse sea salt contains less sodium than standard fine salt, while both contain about 40 percent sodium.

The World Health Organization also estimates that every year 1.9 million deaths worldwide are due to eating more salt. Because liquid substances accumulate in the body due to sodium, the amount of blood and pressure on the artery walls increases.

Dr. Brent Igan, a cardiologist in the American Medical Association and co-positive heart-health co -residant, says, “If someone has high blood pressure, heart disease or any such disease, he should not consume more than 1.5 grams of salt. A recent research conducted by researchers at Wanderbilat University found that consuming only 1 teaspoon of salt per day is similar to blood pressure medicine.
