The ED has recently filed a charge sheet against NCP Sharad Pawar faction MLA Rohit Pawar in the money laundering case. This case is related to a scam of Rs 25,000 crore related to Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB). However, the EOW of Mumbai Police filed a second closure report in this case, which the ED has challenged in the court through the intervention application.
In 2023, ED filed a charge sheet regarding Jarandeshwar Sugar Mills, in which Ajit Pawar’s relationship was told, but he was not made an accused. The ED has now filed a charge sheet on the purchase of Kannada Cooperative Chinese factory through Baramati Agro Limited on behalf of Rohit.
Attached the assets of the factory by recording the statement
Last year, the ED recorded Rohit’s statement and attached the assets of the factory. These properties include 161.3 acres of land, plant, machinery and sugar unit building. The ED investigation is based on the FIR of the EOW, alleging that the board members of MSCB took irregularities in selling several sugar mills and they were assigned to relatives and private people in the name of auction at very low prices.
What is this whole matter?
The Economic Offenses Branch of the Mumbai Police filed an FIR in August 2019 like sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, according to which, it was alleged that Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) officials and directors did not follow the standard process.
At the same time, many sugar mills were sold to their relatives and private institutions at arbitrary prices. In this, he recovered the outstanding loan of Rs 80.56 crore by Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank.
Cudence in bench auction
The bank allegedly organized auction based on suspected valuation. The ED claims that the auction was rigged. The highest bidder was disqualified. Baramati Agro allowed a close aide to remain in the race, which had no experience or financial strength.
