ED has taken major action in the country’s famous Bikebot scam. ED’s Special Task Force has temporarily attached assets worth about Rs 394.42 crore. This action has been taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
ED investigation has revealed that these properties were named after different trusts and societies. These include Kamakhya Educational and Social Welfare Trust, Kamakhya Educational Society, Guru Nanak Charitable Trust, Alpinical Education Society, AP Goel Charitable Trust and Smriti Meena Anand.
Fare, EMI and Bonus Lalt every month
In fact, Global Infra Private Limited and its promoter Sanjay Bhati had given breathtaking schemes to people in the name of bike taxi service. In this, the customer could invest in 1, 3, 5 or 7 bikes. The company used to say that the bike will run as a taxi and the investor will get fare, EMI and bonus every month.
Additional benefits were also promised to invest more and add new people. Franchises were also given in many cities, but in reality the bike taxi did not go anywhere properly. The ED investigation has revealed that the money collected from the people was put in different companies and was imposed in purchasing property through the Educational Trust and Society.
What- seized?
Crores of land were purchased in Meerut. The same money was invested in getting rid of the property pledged from banks. The land and property worth 20.49 crore, which was valued at around 389.30 crores at the time of the scam, a fixed deposit of Rs 5.12 crore was seized.
Earlier, ED had attached assets worth 220.78 crores by taking action three times. The ED has filed a charge sheet and supplementary charge sheet against 27 accused. The special court of Ghaziabad has taken cognizance in all these cases. ED raided several places in 2020 and 2023, in which digital evidence was also found. The ED has made it clear that the investigation of the matter is still going on.
