In the capital Delhi on Monday, MPs of India Block conducted a protest march till the office of the Election Commission. During the March, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra fainted on the way, which party companions were seen handling.
Opposition MPs accused: “Vote theft” and manipulation in sir
The MPs led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha marched from the Capricorn Gate of Parliament to the Election House of the Election Commission. He made serious allegations against the Commission about “vote theft” in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and described the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) in Bihar as a source of manipulation in the voter list.
Delhi Police tried to stop protests
Delhi Police said that no permission was taken for this protest, so MPs were stopped. Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said in response that such permission is never given and the police is taking action on the instructions of the government.
Response of other opposition leaders
Samajwadi Party’s Dimple Yadav recently accused the booth occupying the by -elections in Uttar Pradesh. Manoj Jha of RJD described SIR as “deception” and accused the Election Commission of hiding the data despite the Supreme Court order. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari compared this march from Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March and called it an attempt to save democracy.
MPs showed courage despite protest
Despite the police barricading, the opposition leaders remained adamant on the demand for accountability from the Election Commission and pledged to continue their opposition.
Delhi Police detained many leaders
Delhi Police detained MPs from other Indian blocks including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sanjay Raut and Sagarika Ghosh, who were protesting against SIR and carrying out march from Parliament to Election Commission of India.
