At least 3 people were killed and 28 others were injured when a passenger train derailed due to a bridge collapsing late Saturday night in the Briinsk region of western Russia. According to a statement by Moscow Railway, the train was going from Moscow to Climov in the western part of Russia, when she derailed in Vigonichki district. The reason for the collapse of the bridge was stated by the authorities as ‘illegal intervention in transportation’, although no detailed information was given about this.

Regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed the incident on Telegram and said that emergency services are on the spot. According to the Ministry of Emergency of Russia, the accident occurred near the Federal Highway and several rescue teams have been deployed. Russian government news agencies RIA and TASS said that the driver of the train is also among the dead. Independent Telegram channel Baja and Shots claimed that the bridge might have been deliberately blown, although these reports have not been independently confirmed. No immediate comments have been made by Ukrainian officials.

Since the introduction of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine three years ago, it has repeatedly seen drone attacks, conspiracy to conduct accidents and border shelling in its border areas including Brinesk.
