US President Donald Trump has once again threatened to increase the tariff to India on Monday (4 August 2025). Trump has accused India of buying oil from Russia in large quantities and selling it for huge profits. He said that India not only buy oil from Russia, but also makes a big profit by selling it in the open market.
Trump said, “India does not care about how many people are killing Russia’s war machine in Ukraine. That is why I am going to increase the fees paid to America from India.”
Last week, US President Trump announced a fine of 25 per cent tariffs on Indian imports and a fine on purchasing oil from Russia. Before the August 1 deadline, Trump imposed so much tariff on India. According to the order issued by the US last week, India will be charged 25 percent. However, additional fine declared for military equipment and energy purchase from Russia is not mentioned in this order.
In response to Trump’s tariff, India said that possible action will be taken in the interest of the country. In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the talk with the US was about 10 to 15 percent tariffs.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently said that the Russian oil that India is buying oil is helping Moscow in the Ukraine War. He had said that Trump is angry with India because when there are so many options for buying oil, then why is India buying from stunning.
