US President Donald Trump has retained the deadline of tariff on India 1 August, which he announced in the month of April. He has said in his latest social media posts that India will have to pay 25 percent tariffs. However, no official statement has been released by the White House at present. Just as he did this with Japan – where the first 25 percent tariff was announced but finalized the deal at 15 per cent with a U -turn.
It is worth noting that US President Trump announced a tariff in dozens of countries including India-Japan in April. However, he later extended it for 90 days. Under this, Trump had imposed 26 percent tariff on India, then announced 24 percent tariff on Japan. Till now, talks were going on with India, but on Trump’s announcement, India says that necessary steps will be taken.

Tariffs and threats on India …
On April 2, US President Trump announced to impose 26% “discounted recipes” on goods coming from India. This step was taken by targeting many countries that the US accused of trade imbalance. Trump accused India of putting a lot of tariffs on American products and non-economic trade obstacles.
After this, on 9 April 2025, the Trump administration imposed a temporary 90-day ban on all the country-specific tariffs (which was more than the baseline 10% tariff), which gave some relief to many countries including India.
Now that the tariff deadline of August 1 has come close, today Trump said that no trade agreement with India has been finalized and had expressed the possibility of 20-25% tariff. However, now he has made it clear in his social media posts that India will have to give 25 percent tariff.
Donald Trump’s tariff and final deal on Japan
An important trade agreement was signed on 23 July 2025 amidst long -running trade tension and tariff dispute between the US and Japan. The agreement was reached at a time when President Donald Trump announced a 24% recipe tariff on Japan on 2 April 2025 under “Liberation Day Tarifs”. Earlier, on April 5, the US implemented a universal tariff of 10% on all countries.

Donald Trump had recently sent a letter to Japan to warned of 25% tariff, but after the agreement, tariffs have been reduced to 15% in the US, especially on Japanese items, especially automobiles. This rate is much lower than the earlier 27.5% tariff.
Under this agreement, Japan has promised to invest $ 550 billion in the US and has committed to open its market for American goods such as cars, trucks, rice and other agricultural products.
Although this deal is considered positive in some circles, experts believe that it still puts more tariffs burden than before and can create new challenges for Japan’s economy.
