The European country stood in support of Ukraine’s President Volodimir Jailonsky after no result of Trump and Putin’s meeting in Alaska. European countries made it clear on Saturday (16 August 2025) that Moscow could not decide whether Ukraine would join the European Union or in NATO.
Russia will not decide Ukraine’s future- EU
The European Union (EU) said that Russia has no veto power to decide the future of Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macro, German Chancellor Frederick Merge and European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen issued a joint statement saying that Europe would continue to support Ukraine’s right to choose its own alliance.
Ban will be increased against Russia
The statement said, “We are ready to work towards a tripartite summit with European support including Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailnsky. The Heads of European countries also resolved to keep pressure on Russia. Refusing his stand against Putin, confirming his stand against Putin, we said in the European Union that we resolve to further strengthen the restrictions on Russia.
European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaza Kalas announced to prepare a 19th ban package against Russia after a meeting of foreign ministers at Brussels. He said that no discussion should be made with Russia until Bini agrees on the ceasefire of any condition. He reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to increase military assistance and join the EU.
‘Ukraine’s participation in peace talks should be mandatory’
Ukraine’s President Jailonsky thanked European countries for support. He claimed that Russia is not serious about peace. Jailonsky said on his Telegram channel that we will increase pressure on Russia with our partners. He clarified that Ukraine’s participation in peace talks should be mandatory. Jailonsky said that Russia should not be allowed to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO or EU.
Putin says that Uucron should leave his ambition to join NATO and reduce his army. Russia wants Ukraine to call back its army from Donnetsk, Luhansk, Khern and Japorizia. Ukraine is calling Russia’s demand an attack on its sovereignty.
