Legend of Tungnath Temple
The history of Tungnath Temple thousands of years old is very rich. According to the legend, Lord Shiva became angry with the Pandavas due to heavy genocide in the war of Mahabharata. To please them, the Pandavas traveled to Panchdar and built the Tungnath temple.
According to another belief, Mother Parvati did penance to marry Lord Shiva at this place. Local people tell another story related to the temple that Lord Rama did penance here to get rid of the sin of Brahmana after the slaughter of Ravana. This is the reason why this place is also known as Chandrashila. The Tungnath Temple is one of the major religious centers of Lord Shiva.
