Unesco claim on language: According to the Global Education Monitoring (GEM) team of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), 40 percent of people in the global population do not have the facility to get education in the language that they speak or understand. Despite increasing understanding about the role of domestic language in various countries, policy initiative remains limited.
According to the UNESCO team, some challenges such as the limited ability of teachers to use home languages, non -availability of course materials in home languages ​​and community opposition, are included in some challenges. In some low and medium -income countries, this figure is up to 90 percent. GEM officials said that more than 25 crore learners are affected by this.
Recommendation to implement education policies from different countries
UNESCO recommended nations to implement multilingual education policies and methods, which aims to create educational system to benefit all the learners. The team has presented a report called “Language Matter: Global Guidance on Multi Lingwal Education”, stating that linguistic diversity is becoming a global reality as soon as the migration increases and classes with different linguistic backgrounds are becoming more common. More than 3.1 crore displaced youth are facing language obstacles in education.
Low income figures 90 percent
This report has been compiled on the occasion of 25th International Mother Language Day. On this occasion, dedicated efforts made to preserve and promote the use of mother tongues were celebrated. A senior member of the GEM team said, “Today, 40 percent of the people at the global level are unable to get education in the language that they speak and understand fluently. In some low and medium income countries, this figure reaches 90 percent. More than one billion students are affected by this. “
