The Union Cabinet on Friday (February 7, 2025) approved the proposal to continue the ‘Skill India program’ by 2026 and its restructuring. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave information about this decision of the cabinet.
According to sources, the new income tax bill has also been approved in the meeting of the Union Cabinet. This decision was taken in a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vaishnav said that the cabinet approved a outlay of Rs 8,800 crore for continuing the Central Region’s Skill India Program (SIP) by 2026 and restructuring it.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0), Pradhan Mantri National Trainee Incentive Scheme (PM-NAPS) and Public Education Institute (JSS) Yojana have now been added under the Composite Central Area of ’Skill India Program’. Rs 6,000 crore has been allocated for PMKVY 4.0, Rs 1,942 crore for PM-NAPS and Rs 858 crore for JSS.
According to an official release, this approval underlines the government’s commitment to build a efficient, future workforce by integrating demand-operated, technology-competent and industry-friendly training across the country.

The release said, ‘These initiatives aim to provide compulsive skill development, job training and community-based education to ensure that both urban and rural population including underprivileged communities have access to high quality vocational education. . ‘ Under the three major schemes of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, there are more than 2.27 crore beneficiaries at present.
In PMKVY 4.0, transformational changes have been made to make skill development training industry -oriented, coordinate with national priorities and increase access. More than 400 new courses have been introduced on AI, 5G technology, cyber security, green hydrogen, drone technology, focusing on emerging technologies and future skills to maintain coordination with the emerging demands of the industry and new round technology. .
