Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra released “Kudopali Ki Gatha: The Unheard Story of 1857” published by National Book Trust, India at Tapaswini Hall in Sambalpur, Odisha.

Speaking on the occasion, Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the significance of the Sambalpur Kudopali incident of 1857, comparing it with the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He honored the memory of Veer Surendra Sai and 57 other martyrs who sacrificed their lives fighting against the British. Pradhan appreciated the efforts of the National Book Trust and the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) in researching and publishing the book, which pays tribute to the remarkable bravery of the Kudopali martyrs.

The book is a collection of essays
“The Saga of Kudopali: The Unheard Story of 1857” is a collection of essays on various aspects of the freedom struggle fought against the British. Describing the rebellion carried out by the army in Kudopali, Sambalpur in 1857, the book published by the National Book Trust, India, throws light on the struggle led by Veer Surendra Sai and other freedom fighters against British imperialism in the Sambalpur region. His guerrilla tactics and his courage have been described.
The socio-political conditions of that time, the cultural impact of colonial policies and the human side of the rebellion are also presented in detail in the book.
Plan to translate the book into 10 languages
Bringing out the courageous contributions of local heroes like Chhabila Sai and Srikrishna Behera, the book places the Kudopali rebellion in the broader perspective of India’s freedom struggle. Emphasizing the importance of documenting the sacrifices of national martyrs, Yuvraj, director of the National Book Trust Malik announced plans to translate the book into 10 additional languages, to make it more accessible to a wider audience.

Prominent dignitaries present at the release ceremony included Mahadev Jaiswal, Director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur and Vice Chancellor of Sambalpur University, Prof. Bidhu Bhushan Mishra were included. Other prominent guests included Shri Himanshu Kumar Lal, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Sambalpur; Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, IAS, Revenue Divisional Commissioner, Sambalpur; Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar, IAS, District Magistrate and Collector, Sambalpur; Mukesh Kumar Bhamu, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Sambalpur; and Deepak Kumar Panda, who contributed to the book.
