Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav in ICS 2025 Says Provision to Regulate as Temperature will not be implemented for now

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav in India Climate Summit: Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said on Friday (June 27) that the plan to put the temperature of the Air Conditioner (AC) within the range of 20 to 28 degrees Celsius is unlikely to implement soon and will be implemented gradually over time.

In India Climate Summit/ICS 2025, when he was asked when the new range of AC will be implemented, Yadav said that any such situation can arise only after 2050. He said, “I don’t think it will happen immediately, over time it will gradually be made capabilities.”

Countries developed more responsible for more emissions in the environment- Bhupendra Yadav

Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said, “Getting climate goals should be done in accordance with national conditions and CBDR-RC (shared but different responsibilities and related abilities) theory.” He said, “The United Nations Climate Body presented to the national level of India (NDC) or the National Climate Scheme, emphasizes ensuring the access to energy to its people.”

The principle of CBDR-RC means that all countries will have to fight climate change, but developed countries should make more efforts, as they historically are more responsible for emissions and they have more resources.

AC will work between 20 and 28 degrees in India, it will be mandatory- Manohar Lal

In the same month, Union Minister Manohar Lal had said that air conditioners in India will soon work within the range of 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius and it will be made mandatory. He had said that working at less or higher temperatures than this limit would be prohibited.

Bee Advised to determine AC from 24 to 25 degrees

According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), most AC in India is currently determined between 20 to 21 degrees Celsius, although the ideal comfort is 24 to 25 ° C.

BEE has advised to determine the air conditioner at 24 to 25 ° C to maintain a balance between comfort and energy use. It states that keeping the temperature very low, about 20 to 21 degrees Celsius causes electricity waste.

Increasing one degree temperature of AC can save six percent electricity

The agency also says that increasing the temperature of AC can save about six percent electricity. Increasing it from 20 ° C to 24 ° C can save energy from 24 percent.

IECC Done UC New study done in

According to a recent study by India Energy and Climate Center (IECC) at the University of California (UC) Berkeley, one to 1.5 crore new ACs are installed every year in India and 13 to 15 million ACs are expected to increase in the next decade. Without policy intervention, AC alone can increase the maximum demand for 120 gW and 180 gigawatts by 2035 by 2030, which is about 30 percent of the estimated total demand.

The study said that the fastest growing major economy can avoid severe power deficiency by doubling the energy efficiency of the AC of the room in the next 10 years and saving consumers up to Rs 2.2 lakh crore ($ 26 billion).
