Nitin gadkari in nagpur: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed concern over the increasing number of poor on Saturday (July 5, 2025) and said that money is being concentrated in the hands of some rich people.
Addressing a program in Nagpur district of Maharashtra, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that there is a need for decentralization of funds, where he spoke on several issues including public-private participation (PPP) in agriculture, manufacturing and infrastructure development.
He said, “Gradually the number of poor people is increasing and money is becoming concentrated in the hands of some rich people. This should not happen. The economy should develop in such a way that employment is generated and upliftment of rural areas.”
Decentralization of money is needed: Gadkari
He said, “We are considering an economic option that will generate employment and promote the growth of the economy. There is a need for decentralization of money and many changes have been taken in this direction.”
Union Minister mentions India’s economic structure
The senior BJP leader also credited former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh to adopt liberal economic policies, but also warned against uncontrolled centralization. He said, “We should be worried about it.” Referring to India’s economic structure, he also pointed to an imbalance in the regional contribution to the GDP (GDP).
He said, “The manufacturing sector contributes 22-24 percent, the service sector 52-54 percent, while agriculture contributes only 12 percent, despite incorporating 65-70 percent of the rural population.”
Economy can have growth engines Ca– Gadkari
During this, he also highlighted the emerging role of Chartered Accountants (CA). Gadkari said, “CA can be the growth engines of the economy. Our economy is changing rapidly. It is not limited to filing income tax returns and depositing GST only.”
Talking about the development of infrastructure, Gadkari highlighted its initiatives in the transport sector. He claimed, “I was the one who introduced the ‘Construction-Operation-transfer’ mechanism for road construction.”
I do not have money, lack of work- Gadkari
Gadkari said that there is no shortage of funds for road development. He said, “Sometimes I say that I do not have a shortage of money, but I lack work.” He said, “Right now we earn around Rs 55,000 crore from toll booths and our income will be Rs 1.40 lakh crore in the next two years. If we monitor it for the next 15 years, we will have 12 lakh crores. The new toll will bring more money in our treasury.”
