With the aim of promoting environmental protection and sustainable development in urban areas, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the ‘Urban Green Policy’. The purpose of this policy is to reduce the effect of climate change by increasing greenery in municipal bodies and providing clean, green environment to people. It will be implemented in three stages.

According to the agency, under this policy proposed by the Urban Development Department, the scheme will be implemented at three levels. In these, the system will be prepared at the city, neighborhood and building levels. At the city level, dense mini forests will be prepared by Miawaki method, so that greenery can increase rapidly in urban areas.

Apart from this, parks and community green zones will be developed at the neighborhood level. At the same time, new buildings at the building level will make the ‘Green Building’ standards compulsory, which will include the use of green roofs, energy conservation techniques and environment-friendly materials.

A Green City monitoring system will also be developed under this policy, which will give cities ‘Green Star’ rating to cities based on environmental efforts and green infrastructure. This will promote a healthy competition and will be motivated towards making the municipal bodies more green.

In order to reduce the side effects of climate change in urban areas, the policy has been given priority to the vertical garden, rooftop garden and Miawaki forest. These measures will not only reduce the temperature, but will also improve oxygen levels in cities.

Plan will be applicable in three phases

First phase (2025-2027): The scheme will be implemented in smart cities and large metro cities during this period.
Second phase (2027-2030): Cities with more than one lakh population will be included in this phase.
Third phase (after 2030): In this phase, all the municipalities and nagar panchayats will also come under the purview of this policy.

The ‘Urban Green Policy’ reflects the thinking of the Uttar Pradesh government, which wants to carry out development and environmental protection together. This policy will not only make urban life more beautiful and clean, but will also create a balanced environment for future generations.
