A painful incident in Prayagraj on Saturday morning shook everyone. From the new Yamuna bridge of the city, a loving couple grabbed each other’s hand and jumped into the swollen Yamuna river. The entire scene was recorded by the people present there in their mobile phones, which is now becoming increasingly viral on social media. The incident took place around 7:30 am.
‘Water police could not save life’
It can be clearly seen in the video that the young man and the woman first approached the bridge railing and then jumped directly into the river with each other’s hand. The team of water police stationed on the spot immediately reached with a motorboat, but by then both had gone far away in the fast flow. The police also threw the rescue tube and tried to save the girl, but they could not succeed due to Yamuna’s strong current and floods.

Divers expressed apprehension of suicide intention
Divers Manoj Nishad, the divers at the ghat, said that many times people do not want to protect themselves from the intention of suicide. The same appears in this case. He also said that the flow of Yamuna is so fast that no one can protect it directly into the river, this can also threaten the lives of those who rescue them.
Woman identified with school bag
After the incident, a school bag flowing in the river, which had a marksheet and diary. Based on this, the girl has been identified as Jyoti Gupta daughter Ram Asare, resident Sirsa (Meja), Prayagraj. She was currently living in her maternal grandmother and her father lives in Mumbai. The young man has not been identified yet.

Police is investigating, trying to contact family members
The police has deposited the bag in the Kidganj police station and now an attempt is being made to contact the family.
