Us Embassy in New Delhi Directed All Visa Applicants to Stipulate details of all their social media handles from past five years

New Delhi -based United States (US) Embassy has directed all visa applicants to give details of all their social media handles of the last 5 years for investigation on Thursday (June 26, 2025). The embassy has warned that the visa can be rejected if they do not do so.

A statement on X by American Embassy said that visa applicants are required to list every social media user name or handle used by them in the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form. Applicants certify before signature and submitting that the information given in their visa application is true and correct.

The statement issued by Embassy said that the visa may be rejected if social media related information can be rejected and you can be ineligible for the visa in future also.

Citing national security and public security, the US on Monday said that all applicants will have to make their social media accounts public for student visas. The New Delhi -based US Embassy said on Monday that with immediate effect, all persons applying for FM or J non -immigrant visa are requested to make public the privacy settings of all their social media accounts to make them publicly investigated to establish their identity and acceptance in the United States under the US law.

The F-1 visa is released to students doing academic studies, while M-1 is for those enrolled in business or other non-educational programs. On the other hand, J-1 visa is given to individuals participating in teaching, studies, research or job training programs, which is usually ranging from a few weeks to many years.

Last month, the Trump administration prohibited all American consulates from all over the world to take new interviews, accept applications for students and visitor visas.
