Us President Trump-Aasim Munir Meeting: A meeting was held on Wednesday 18 June 2025 at the White House between US President Donald Trump and Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. This is the first time in American history that a Pakistani military officer was invited at this level as a civil representative. It is being seen as a diplomatic victory in Islamabad regarding this meeting, especially at a time when the Indian delegation recently met the US Vice President and was highly appreciated in the Pak media.
According to the report of Dawn, Pakistani Army General Asim Munir told the media after meeting that I was calling Asim Munir because I wanted to thank him for not going to the war and I also thank Prime Minister Modi. Both these are intelligent people who decided to postpone the nuclear war. Apart from this, he also gave a statement about Iran. He said that by talking to Asim Munir, it was found that Pakistan knows Iran very well and its role can be important in this regional context.
Change in America’s South Asia Policy?
India was seen as a strategic partner during both Trump and Biden’s tenure, especially given China’s growing influence, but this meeting with Field Marshal Munir is working to change the notion. Earlier, on the role of America in the Indo-Pak struggle, Modi emphasized that it resolved by negotiations, while Trump claimed US intervention.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s statement
Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appreciated the meeting of Trump and Munir, saying that this is a positive step for Pakistan-US bilateral relations. I always say that Pakistan wants peace, but India has opposed this efforts. Bilawal alleged that repression in India, weapons of water resources and politicization of terrorism are serious subjects. He spoke of honest diplomacy for the solution. On the other hand, the stand of the Modi government is clear that Indo-Pak relations can be solved only by the mediation of a third country, but by direct negotiations. India has been denying the American intervention and he adopted the same view in the current developments.
