Canada has admitted for the first time that Khalistani extremists are using Canada land to spread violence and attitude in India. A recent report by Canadian intelligence agency (CSIS) states that Khalistani is using Canada as promoting violence in India, raising funds or making plans.
CSIS on Wednesday released its annual report, outlining some major concerns and dangers for Canada’s national security.
The Canadian intelligence agency CSIS report clearly stated, “Khalistani extremists are mainly continuing to use Canada as a basis to promote violence in India, raise money or plan.”
‘Canada becomes a stronghold of opponents of India’
The CSIS report has confirmed that Canada has become a safe refuge for anti -India elements, which confirms the concerns of India raised over the years.
The report states that since the mid -1980s, the threat of PMVE in Canada has mainly manifested through CBKE.
The report said, ‘A small group of some individuals is considered Khalistani extremist, as they mainly use Canada as a basis for promoting violence in India, raising money or planning. In particular, the real and alleged Khalistani extremism emerging from Canada promotes Indian foreign intervention activities in Canada.
The first time the use of the word extremism
At the same time, the most important thing of this report is that for the first time, Canada has officially used the word ‘extremism’ for Khalistani groups. This is a big change, because earlier the Canadian government and agencies used to take the issue lightly or considered it only part of ‘community activities’. But now it has become clear from the clear confession of CSIS that Khalistani militants are not only a threat to India, but can also be a matter of concern for Canada’s own safety.
Tension in such relationships
Let us tell you that in the year 2023, the then PM Trudeau of Canada had claimed that his government had evidence of India’s involvement in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India denied the allegations, describing them as “ignorant” and “inspired” and accused Canada of giving place to extremist and anti -India elements.
After this, India withdrew six diplomats from Canada, as Canadian officials investigating Nijjar’s murder called them their interest. Nijjar was shot dead outside a gurdwara on June 18, 2023 in the British Columbia.
Opposition to PM Carney’s decision
At the same time, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney faced criticism to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G-7 summit, some Sikh supporters and their own MPs expressed disagreement. However, Carney defended his decision citing India’s importance in global affairs.
Carney emphasized the position of India as the world’s fourth largest economy and the most populous country, which makes him an important player in dealing with global challenges.
