A smuggler with more than 4 dozen living turtles has been arrested during checking at the platform of Cantt railway station in Varanasi. The price of recovered turtles has been stated to be Rs 12 lakh. The arrested smuggler was taking the turtles from Shahganj in Jaunpur to West Bengal, when the GRP arrested him.
GRP police said that during the checking, a suspect appeared near the Kashi side toilet, the eastern end of platform number 8/9. On suspicion, the person was stopped and questioned. In which he told that sir, I have two pitti bags. Which have illegal turtles. On which both the bags were seen inside the bag, there were a total of 48 other live turtles in each bag. The total price of which was said to be around 12 lakh rupees.

The person caught has called his name Sudhanshu Mohan. The accused district Nadia is a resident of West Bengal. That turtle was taking West Bengal. Prima facie the case was informed to the Regional Forest Officer Varanasi range due to the trafficking of the turtle. The recovered turtle is the Schedule beings of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. In relation to which legal action is being taken by the forest department team.
GRP Inspector Rajaul Nagar said that the turtle was being smuggled from Shahganj in Jaunpur and was being taken to West Bengal. At present, the turtle has been recovered and advance action is being taken.
