39 people died in a stampede on Saturday (September 27, 2025) in the rally of actor-politics and TVK chief Vijay in Karur district of Tamil Nadu. Eyewitnesses said about this horrific accident that the power failure at the scene, sudden increase in crowd and small roads made this stampede more terrible.

Apart from this, Vijay reached the rally seven hours late, by then more than 25 thousand people were waiting to get a glimpse of him.

One eyewitness said, ‘Vijay had arrived at around 7 pm with his campaign bus, another large crowd of people reached there, which became fierce. During this time many people climbed on trees, roofs and electric poles. In such a situation, the administration had to cut the power lines to eliminate the possibility of getting a big untoward.

He said, ‘As soon as victory came, people started pushing each other and throwing the slippers on the campaign bus to draw their attention. Some people who had climbed on trees and electric poles fell into the roadside drains and got trapped inside it. Even many people fainted during this period. The ambulance was trying to reach them, but could not go inside due to the huge crowd.

Police rained sticks on people

Another eyewitness said that the Tamil Nadu police also lathi -charged the people to bring the uncontrollable mob of people at the scene under control. He said, ‘If Vijay shook his hands on the way, the crowd would not follow him. People were shouting loudly for help, but Vijay did not pay attention to his help and ignored.

Vijay expresses condolences to the dead and injured

Several hours after this terrible incident, Vijay expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the stampede and wished the injured to get well soon. He has announced to give Rs 20 lakh to the families of those killed in the accident and has said to give a assistance of Rs 2-2 lakh to the injured.
