In Karur, Tamil Nadu, 40 people were killed in a stampede during the election rally of actor and Tamilga Vatri Vitri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay, out of which a woman who lost her mother said that I saw that the mob was crushing my mother in front of her eyes. The woman said to ‘IANS’, ‘My sister and my sister fell near Vijay’s car and my mother came to save me, but she got caught in the crowd. Many people had moved forward to reach near Vijay’s car.

The woman said, ‘I was unable to breathe and it took me more than an hour to get out. I took off my shoes and somehow pushed out. I saw that the crowd was crushing my mother in front of her eyes. I asked for help many times, but no one came to help me. I wish my mother would have survived if they were saved a little earlier. His chest and throat were pressed by the crowd.

‘Mother pulled the crowd’

Prashant, son of the deceased Maheshwari, said, ‘My mother went to the temple on Saturday. While returning from the temple, he wanted to stay for a while to see Vijay’s election campaign. Unfortunately, there was a stampede in the crowd at the same time. All the people started moving forward and my mother also went on to pull with the crowd. My sister and her child also got caught in the same crowd. When my mother tried to save her, she herself got buried and died.

Prashant said in his last words, ‘We have heard our house without mother. She was a kind woman who lost her life to protect others. We hope that better arrangements will be made to prevent such incidents in future.

‘Is it necessary to organize a meeting in a small place?’

Maheshwari’s husband Sathivale said, ‘Do they really need such a gathering? Was it necessary to organize it in such a small place? My wife had to die by crushing under the feet of so many people. If it ends like this, then what does it mean to achieve something? ‘ This incident has proved to be a big shock for the people of Karur. People are raising questions about security arrangements in such events.
