Now within 15 days of any update in the voter list, people will be given their voter ID cards. The Election Commission said on Wednesday that it has started a new process to give voter ID cards, including new registration or change in existing voters. Apart from this, voters will also get SMS, so that they will continue to get their card updates.

Officials said that so far it takes a little more than a month to distribute voter photo identity card (EPIC) to voters. The new system will conduct trekking at every level from generating EPIC of Electoral Registration Officer to voter through post.

Live monitoring of voting centers also announced

Earlier on June 16, the Commission has announced that it will webcasting all polling stations to increase the voting process. This decision will be implemented from Bihar assembly elections.

The webcasting data will be for the internal use of the Commission. Meaning it will not be made public. Till now only 50% polling station webcasting was done.

Webcasting will be done in areas with internet connectivity. In areas where there is no internet connectivity, optional arrangements like videography, photography can be made.

Webcasting monitoring control room will be created at the state, district and assembly seats level. Nodal officers will be appointed at each level for its care and monitoring.

Voter ID card will be linked to Aadhaar

On March 18, a high level meeting was held between senior officials of Election Commission and Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Law, IT, UIDAI in Delhi. It agreed to link the voter ID to Aadhaar. According to ECI sources, the purpose of linking the voter ID-Aadhaar is to clean and bring transparency to duplicate voters from the voter list before the upcoming elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Dnyanesh Kumar said- Technical counseling between technical experts of UIDAI and ECI will soon begin to start this process.
