The voter list for Bihar assembly elections 2025 is going to be published on Tuesday (September 30, 2025). At the same time, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the election schedule next week for the assembly elections in Bihar.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will visit Patna on 4 and 5 October next week to take stock of the preparations for the election in the state. According to sources, the announcement of the assembly election schedule is likely to be done next week.
First phase voting may be done immediately after Chhath festival
The first phase of polling for the assembly in Bihar is likely to be held soon after Chhath festival in late October. The Election Commission is deploying 470 observers for Bihar elections and by -elections in some states. A briefing of general, police and expenditure supervisors is also going to happen in New Delhi on Friday (October 3, 2025). The term of the 243 -member assembly of Bihar ends on November 22, 2025. The last assembly elections in the state were held in three phases in 2020.
Special intensive revision of voter list in Bihar after 22 years
After a gap of 22 years in Bihar, the final voter list is being published after the conclusion of the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list. Draft voter lists were published on August 1 and by September 1, claims and objections of individuals and political parties were taken. There are 7.24 crore voters in the draft list.
Opposition parties did Sir Critic
Opposition parties have criticized the SIR’s exercise and claimed that it will deprive crores of real citizens of their franchise. At the same time, the Election Commission has said that it will not exclude any eligible citizen from the voter list and also will not allow any unqualified person to be included in the (voter) list.
