Waqf amendment bill 2025 , The Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 has been passed from both the Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The bill was passed on Wednesday (April 2) with a majority of 288 votes from the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament. At the same time, on Thursday (April 3), the upper house of Parliament was passed in Rajya Sabha by a vote of 128 members. Members of the opposition parties in both the houses opposed this bill. Even this bill was called even violation of the Constitution, but amidst strong opposition, this Waqf Amendment Bill was passed from Parliament.

The Congress said on Friday (April 4) that it will challenge the constitutionality of the ‘Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025’ passed in Parliament in the Supreme Court. The Rajya Sabha approved the ‘Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 on Thursday (April 3) with several important provisions including increasing transparency in the Waqf Board. With this, this bill was passed in Parliament.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Congress Waqf (Amendment) Bill will soon challenge the constitutionality of 2025 in the Supreme Court.” He said, “We will continue to oppose all the attacks of the Modi government on the principles, provisions and traditions inherent in the Constitution of India.”

Ramesh said that the Congress challenged the ‘Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) 2019’, on which the hearing is still going on in the Supreme Court. At the same time, the amendments of 2019 in the ‘RTI (Right to Information) Act, 2005’ are also going on in the Supreme Court.

In addition, the Congress challenged the validity of the amendments in the “Operations Rules (2024) ‘and the Congress’s petition to maintain the basic spirit of the worship site act, 1991 is also being heard in the Supreme Court.”
